A New Disaster Communication System

It works even when Internet, Commercial Power and Cell Phones are down?

By Nick Markowitz Jr.
Fire Investigator

A disaster has just taken out cell phones, Internet, Commercial Power and just about all other communications in your community. You need to communicate. All you have left is the high wattage radios in your emergency vehicles to be able to talk to your emergency center who are also having a difficult time getting essential information to other emergency agency’s. Exactly what is needed in your community?

What do you do?

Well with a couple lap top computers a simple CD with RemComm software and a cable from the computer to the audio input jacks of you emergency radios you can now instantly move data bases and other info directly over your emergency radios without all the expensive modems patch cables and other devices needed previously.

When the Red Cross needed to get info between their disaster centers after Hurricane Katrina hit, the employees of RemComm who are all dedicated Amateur Radio operators, took their product down to the Gulf Coast for several weeks and assisted the Red Cross in getting lists of names and inventories communicated between the centers. They used just their Amateur Radios in some cases using a hand held walkie talkie to handheld walkie talkie. RemComm is available in several different configurations including Porta browser, MDT, Tone G3, and Arms and works on a wide variety of radio frequencies and equipment without modifications.

RemComm was started right here in Pittsburgh Pa. by Richard G. Johnson Founder and Chief Technology Officer and dedicated volunteer. He spent several years developing the RemComm Product and is now demonstrating it all around the country Including Anti Terror Task force 13 meeting here I Western Pa. and getting ready to roll it out. I found out about the RemComm product through my step brother in law David Kleber who became involved with RemComm through his Amateur Radio background as well and was among the volunteers who went to the gulf coast. You can see pictures and articles of their trip on their website. To find out more about the RemComm Product line to see if it fits a niche in your emergency plan visit the RemComm website www.remcomm-inc.com
