Beginning of a Fire - Part 6

By: Nick Markowitz Jr.
Fire Investigator – Electrical Contractor

This Duplex receptacle was installed in a commercial building in West Virginia that was originally built to house a gas and oil drilling buisenss. Instead of a commercail grade receptacle being installed to handle all the plugging in and out and heavy amperage of big hand drills, pumps etc, a residential one was installed as the pictures illustrate. You can see how the unit has completely burned up inside and exploded when it failed. Had this receptacle not been installed in a metal box, a fire would have resulted.
